The Pokerfarm WSOP Week 1 Round Up

June 10, 2011

Well the first week in Vegas has been pretty eventful for The Pokerfarm to say the least. With 6 cashes so far it's been a hugely successful start.

Things couldn't have started better when Jake Cody won the 25k heads up championship for $850k. This was a huge achievement in only his second WSOP event he has played. The manner in which he won was also a great testament to his ability. In the semi finals he was up against Gus Hansen who was on for back to back bracelets in this Heads Up format after winning the WSOPE Heads Up in London last year. He was on a 12 match winning run and many didn't give Jake much of a chance. Gus admitted to not knowing anything of Jake let alone his playing style but things went perfectly for Jake and he dismantled Gus in truly impressive fashion, with a phenomenal 92% win rate at showdown.

In the final he was up against Yevgeniy Timoshenko, another fearsome competitor but Jake kept his cool and the cards carried on to fall his way. Again Jake only needed to buy in for 1 stack, forcing Timoshenko to buy in 3 times before Jake finally dismantled him. Cheered on by a huge rail this was a dream come true for Jake and The Pokerfarm. You can relive Jakes journey here as the Pokerfarm was there to capture it all on camera.

Not to be outdone Jarred Solomon was next up to pick up a big score for the farm. After coming so close to a bracelet last year Jarred went even closer in the $10k pot limit hold em event. Jarred made it all the way to heads up but was up against a superior stack and found it hard to get any momentum. He battled away and put in a stellar performance but eventually ran his AJ into AQ. Never the less he still picked up $354k for his second place finish. Again The Pokerfarm followed Jarred on his final day and produced this video highlighting how emotional tournament poker can be on oneself. Luckily he still has another month to try and grab s first bracelet.

Another impressive story played out the following day as one of Jake Cody's oldest and closest friend Matt Perrins played his first ever hand of 2-7 in the $1500 No limit event after reading a book and watching some videos on YouTube about the game. Matt made it to the Finland table as chip leader playing an aggressive game and never looked back. He stormed the final as he continued to put pressure on the short stacks. An impressive display of big bet tournament poker eventually saw Matt pick up his first WSOP bracelet and $102k to go along with it.
