Betting Begins on WSOPE Main Event

The World Series of Poker Europe 2011 began on October 7 in Cannes, France. The €10,000 Main Event will begin this Saturday, October 15, with a host of big-name tournament regulars set to participate.

Betting exchange Matchbook.com is offering odds on the strongest contenders to finish in-the-money.  Matchbook’s exchange format makes it possible to back or lay entrants in the event.

Poker celebrity Phil Hellmuth has odds to cash of 6/1. Last Sunday, Hellmuth finished 7th in the €2,500 6-Max Hold’em event at Cannes, winning over €24,000.  Odds of Phil Hellmuth not cashing in the event are currently offered at 1/7.

Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu is ranked slightly better at 11/2. Negreanu has two previous WSOPE Main Event cashes, finishing 5th in 2008 and 2nd in 2009.

The shortest odds are offered for American players Erik Seidel and Jason Mercier at 5/1. Seidel won £28,960 at the 2008 main event, finishing 19th. Mercier came 4th in the 2009 WSOPE, winning £267,267.

Close behind are a group of UK players: Roberto Romanello, Jake Cody, and Sam Trickett at 11/2, Matt Perrins at 6/1, and Andrew Feldman at 13/2.

The longest odds are offered on last year’s Main Event winner James Bord at 7/1. Bord received over £830,000 for his tournament win.

The WSOPE 2011 main event will run from October 15 to October 20. The field is set to be the biggest in the tournament’s history.

Matchbook is a trading platform that allows people to bet directly with each other.  Odds are currently offered on Poker and all major sports.
